Cuban Ambassadors pay courtesy visit to the Embassy of Zimbabwe in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, April 23, 2025.- The Ambassadors of Cuba to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the African Union, H.E. Meylin Suárez Álvarez and H.E. Lucas D. Hernández, paid a courtesy visit to the Embassy of the Republic of Zimbabwe in Addis Ababa, where they were warmly received by the Zimbabwean Ambassador, H.E. Sophia Nyamudeza.

During the fraternal meeting, the parties discussed the excellent state of bilateral relations between Cuba and Zimbabwe, based on the historical solidarity that unites both peoples since the years of struggle for independence and that today is expressed in multiple spheres of cooperation, particularly in health and professional training.

The diplomats also exchanged on current issues on the African agenda, underlining the value of South-South dialogue and the importance of continental integration in favor of sustainable development, peace and self-determination of peoples.

In his speech, the Cuban ambassador to the African Union, H.E. Lucas D. Hernández, denounced the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the Government of the United States against the island, as well as the unjustified inclusion of Cuba in the unilateral list of countries sponsoring terrorism. He pointed out that these coercive measures have a severe impact on the economy and the well-being of the Cuban people, and thanked African countries for their traditional support for the Cuban cause in international forums.

For her part, Ambassador Nyamudeza reiterated Zimbabwe's solidarity with Cuba and its firm support in the struggle for the lifting of the blockade. He also highlighted the example of resistance and dignity of the Cuban people in the face of decades of hostility.

The meeting concluded with the shared will to continue strengthening ties of friendship and cooperation, as well as to strengthen coordination in multilateral spaces, in defense of common principles such as sovereignty, justice and respect for international law.
