Monrovia, September 19, 2020 - On a day like today in 2005, Commander Fidel Castro established an organization that has no precedent in the world until today: The Henry Reeve International Contingent of Doctors Specialized in Disaster Situations and Serious Epidemics.
The first missions were in Guatemala and Pakistan, countries that at that time faced the consequences of Hurricane Katrina and a devastating earthquake. From then on, the sustained work of the thousands of collaborators in the 34 brigades of the Henry Reeve Contingent, left their mark in several Latin American nations with Operation Miracle, the creation of the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM), for foreign scholars, the earthquake in Haiti, the fight against Ebola in Africa, and now with their presence in more than twenty countries for the confrontation with COVID- 19.
In exchange with Liberian personalities we have registered favorable opinions about the work of Henry Reeve Brigade, by those who say they have great respect for the courage and dedication in the care of patients. Such health actions once again reached the skin and soul of many, who felt the hand, the warmth and the return to life, because of the contribution and humanism of Cuban doctors, who never went in search of a prize, but to voluntarily offer their knowledge and services.
A group of important personalities has launched the initiative to ask for the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to the Cuban medical brigades fighting COVID-19 in 27 countries, which over the years have intervened heroically in the face of numerous natural disasters and epidemics around the world.
The "Henry Reeve" International Medical Contingent has been present in more than twenty nations, has provided medical assistance to more than 3.5 million people and has saved more than 80 thousand lives.
Made up of thousands of doctors and specialists with a high sense of humanism and a spirit of solidarity, this contingent is always ready to answer the call of the people of the world who require its efforts.
"Honor and glory to our courageous fighters for health and life!
