Cuban Head of Mission holds exchange with Liberian civil organization.

Monrovia, November 3, 2020 - Today, Cuban Chargé d'Affaires Mercedes L. Martínez Herrera held an exchange with members of the civil organization Inclusive Development Initiative (IDI), a non-profit organization that aims to support and defend the rights of persons with disabilities in Liberia.

At the meeting, its members explained the mission, vision, and values of this organization. According to its executive director, Alonzo Dorian Dixon, the work of this organization is divided into thematic areas to train and advocate for the rights to equal justice, quality education, good health care services, and employment of people with disabilities.

The mission of this organization is to promote strategies that improve the health, education, and well-being of people with disabilities, and to help ensure that communities support people with disabilities.

The Cuban diplomat indicated that ensuring the inclusion and equality of these population groups is a priority for the Cuban health system and the state. She explained the services provided by the Special School of Solidarity with Panama and referred to the 8 programs implemented by our government since the triumph of the revolution to achieve the integration of disabled persons. He also referred to the challenges assumed by the Cuban state to be able to guarantee the fundamental needs of this sector of society, in the midst of the intensified economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States, which implies important restrictions to access to better technologies and resources for this portion of the population.

The meeting served as an impulse to strengthen Cuban diplomatic work in Liberian civil society scenarios. It was also a favorable environment to show Cuba's achievements in the care of people with disabilities.
