The Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Barbados hosted yesterday afternoon, January 25, the commemoration of the 172nd anniversary of the birth of our Apostle, José Martí. We were accompanied in this evening by a representation of the membership of the Association of Cuban Residents “Martyrs of Barbados”, friends of solidarity, the Pan-Africanist Movement and members of the State Mission. All together we paid tribute to a man of universal thought and very advanced for his time, our José Martí.
We recalled some of the most significant aspects of the life, work and revolutionary thought of the Apostle, in voice and with the performance of the Group of Young Amateur Artists of Cubans Resident in Barbados “El Ismaelillo”, who made their debut in this commemoration, with the interpretation of poems and songs in homage to Martí. Reflecting on the validity of Martí's thought, our tribute was also a platform to strongly condemn the US government's policy of maintaining and intensifying the genocidal blockade against the Cuban people and once again including Cuba in the arbitrary list of alleged State sponsors of terrorism.
The interventions of Yanet Stable Cárdenas, Cuban Ambassador to Barbados and Onkphra Wells, president of the Pan-Africanist Movement of Barbados, dealt with this condemnation and in support of the statements of the Cuban Revolutionary Government. The president of the Association of Cuban Residents “Martyrs of Barbados”, Yulenny Rivera Leliebre, presented the Declaration of the Association, in which she called on Cubans to unite in the purpose of continuing to condemn this hostile policy of the US Government.
The patriotic and solidary meeting concluded with the performance of some members of the group of young amateur artists “El Ismaelillo”, who interpreted some simple verses of Martí, moment in which all the participants joined voices to sing the well-known and emblematic Guantanamera.
