The UN General Assembly almost unanimously adopted this Wednesday, 1 November for the twenty-sixth consecutive year, the resolution demanding the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by United States against Cuba for almost 60 years.
The resolution was adopted by 191 votes in favor, 2 votes against, and 0 abstentions. The United Nations has 193 Member States.
When presenting the resolution, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba, denounced that the blockade continues to be a massive, flagrant, and systematic violation of the human rights of all Cubans which is a genocidal act in the light of the UN Convention against the Crime of Genocide.
The Cuban Minister also condemned the stiffening of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade against Cuba as the main pillar of the US present Administration that reverts the advances achieved in the bilateral relations after the announcements made by Presidents Raúl Castro Ruz and Barack Obama on the reestablishment of the diplomatic relations and the beginning of a process of normalization of the bilateral bonds on 17 December 2014.
The blockade has caused accumulated damages to the Cuban people which run at US$ 822 thousand 280 million during almost six decades. From April 2016 - June 2017, the blockade has led to losses to Cuba amounting to US$ 4 thousand 305.4 million.
This voting ratifies the increasing international isolation of this US failed, and unsustainable blockade policy against Cuba due to its illegal, inhuman, and obsolete nature.
Cuba appreciates the support of the international community and its legitimate claim the cessation of this policy which persists and damages Cuban and American peoples as well as the system of international relations mostly.
