In Liberia, commemoration of the 67th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, and the 173rd anniversary of the birth of José Martí

The Friendship Association with Cuba and the Cuban Embassy in Monrovia celebrated the 67th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, the year of the Centennial of Fidel Castro, and the 173rd anniversary of Cuba's National Hero.

Those present, graduates from the island, Friends of Cuba, and Liberian authorities recognized that this year, 2026, marks the tenth anniversary of the reopening of the Cuban embassy in Monrovia and the 52nd anniversary of relations between the two nations.

In this context, the Cuban ambassador, Dr. Indira López denounced the threats to world peace posed by the United States, the violations of international law in Latin America and in  Venezuela, and the increase in hostility and the blockade against Cuba.

Members of the Friendship Association and its president highlighted the arrival of two medical graduates, who, together with their 13 colleagues, are an example of Cuban solidarity with the small African nation.

Guests at the event spoke out in favor of peace, respect for international law and the United Nations Charter, and the sovereignty of peoples. Those present condemned the blockade against the island.

The young graduates thanked their government and Cuba for the opportunity to graduate as doctors and for their willingness to serve their Liberian people. In their anecdotes, they shared memories of the tributes to José Martí, concluding with the poem Cultivo una rosa blanca (I Grow a White Rose).
