In the afternoon of Friday, December 9, the Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Liberia, Mr. Saah 'Ntow Charles, paid a courtesy call to the Director General for Bilateral Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Ambassador Gerardo Peñalver Portal. The meeting took place at the headquarters of the Cuban diplomatic mission in Liberia, in the presence of the Cuban Chargé d'Affaires in that African nation, Yordenis Despaigne Vera and the Second Secretary Carmen Maury.
The Liberian official reiterated his deepest condolences over the death of Commander Fidel Castro Ruz, whom he described as "a man of solid principles and world prestige." He also considered the reopening of the Cuban diplomatic headquarters a step of great importance to achieve a more beneficial link between both countries. At the same time, Peñalver Portal reaffirmed the special sensitivity of the Commander, the Cuban government and people to the African peoples, one of whose most recent samples has been the presence of a Cuban medical brigade of 53 health professionals who supported Liberia in the fight against mortal scourge that was the Ebola virus in 2014 and 2015.
Both interlocutors discussed various aspects of bilateral interest, with a view to future cooperation in the field of sport.
