Monrovia, September 24, 2020 - The Nobel Peace Prize winner Ellen Johnson Sirleaf decided to refer to the board of the Nobel Prize Committee the proposal that the International Contingent of Physicians for Disasters and Serious Epidemics "Henry Reeve" be registered among the candidates and awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
"The Henry Reeve Brigade deserves the Nobel Peace Prize," said the first woman president of an African country, "it is a recognition of the extraordinary humanitarian efforts of this brigade in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
The former Liberian president also expressed her appreciation for the generous assistance provided by the medical contingent during the Ebola crisis.
The proposal invokes the altruistic merits of this group, which for decades has come to the aid of those affected by earthquakes, epidemics and other serious situations.
Cuba's international medical collaboration had in the fight against Ebola one of its highest expressions of humanism and disinterest.
