Monrovia, November 6, 2020.- Cuban Chief of Mission Mercedes L. Martinez Herrera had a pleasant and fraternal meeting with Hon. Olubanke King-Akerele, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, former Minister of Trade and Industry of the Government, and current President of the Angie Brooks International Center for Women's Empowerment, Leadership Development, International Peace and Security, as well as Executive Director of the Liberian Institute for Patriotism "Crescent", and leader of the Diplomacy Training Program "Development" (Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
The icon of the African country highlighted the work of Cuban collaborators in the different countries of the world where they serve the less privileged, adding that she has lived the experience of feeling the work of Cuban collaboration in countries such as Zambia and Liberia, where she witnessed the excellent performance of our country's doctors.
Showing her excellent oratory, the Liberian diplomat supported the nomination of the 'Henry Reeve' medical brigade of the island for the Nobel Peace Prize, for their altruistic work in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic, considering that solidarity is vital for the promotion of a just peace and indicating that the Henry Reeve contingent is a sample of the collaboration that is needed in the moments in which the world is living, and urged to recognize the humanitarian and essential cooperation of Cuban doctors to defeat the Covid-19 in the world.
She also pointed out that granting them the Nobel Peace Prize would be a fair way to recognize these heroes, who have fought against diseases, deadly viruses and natural disasters in poor and developed countries, promoting the right to life, health and the value of international solidarity.
