Ottawa - This Thursday, October 16th, the exhibition "The Mirror of Our Magical Culture" was inaugurated in this capital city, curated by Lilia Faulkner Carranza, president of the Canadian institution Terra Art, within the framework of the celebrations for Hispanic and Latin Heritage Month in Canada, and for Cuban Culture Day.
The exhibition, which will be open to the public until October 19th, showcases works by Latin American artists, including Silvia Rodríguez Rivero, a Cuban painter, poet, artistic director, and musical producer, who was present at the event.
In statements to the press, Rodríguez Rivero stated that being in a beautiful temple in Ottawa, celebrating Latin American Heritage Month in Canada, is truly an honor: "I am surrounded by works by various artists from Latin American countries. Each one brought their piece of art, country, and heart to share among everyone. I bring a piece of my Havana, which is always in my paintings. It is the city from where I paint and for which I paint; and it is, as you will see in the works, surrounded by characters who are very free, very light; they fly, they do everything imaginable and unimaginable. For me, it has been a real party to be able to share in this meeting of Latin American artists. It is a true privilege."
Rodríguez Rivero's literary and musical work is closely related to that of her husband, the Cuban composer and pianist José María Vitier. She has held 22 solo exhibitions in important galleries in Havana and other provinces in Cuba and in prestigious spaces abroad, such as the Miró Hall, at UNESCO headquarters in Paris; the Gallery of the Puerta de Toledo Cultural Center, in Madrid; and in the Foz Palace, in Lisbon.
