London, 15 March 2026: — From 15 to 28 March 2026, London and other cities across the UK will host the **third edition of the Screen Cuba: Films to Change the World* festival, dedicated to promoting awareness and appreciation of Cuban cinema amongst the British public.
The opening ceremony took place at The Garden Cinema in London, attended by the Cuban Ambassador, Ismara Vargas Walter, who welcomed guests to this new edition of the festival.
The event featured prominent guests from the worlds of film and culture, including Tania Delgado Fernández, director of the Havana International Festival of New Latin American Cinema; the renowned Cuban actress Mirtha Ibarra, winner of the 2025 National Film Award; the Cuban actor Joel Angelino; and the British actress Adjoa Andoh, one of the patrons of Screen Cuba.
The programme presents a selection of works representative of Cuban cinema, including classics and contemporary productions, amongst them Lucía by Humberto Solás; Las doce sillas and Hasta cierto punto by Tomás Gutiérrez Alea; Se permuta by Juan Carlos Tabío; Capablanca by Manuel Herrera; El Benny by Jorge Luis Sánchez; and Life is Dance by Eirene Houston and Hugo Rivalta.
The festival provides an important platform for introducing the British public to the history, diversity and artistic richness of Cuban cinema, as well as for strengthening cultural ties between Cuba and the United Kingdom.
The opening night concluded with a performance by the Cuban group Latin Bridge, led by Sergio Marciano, which provided the musical finale to a day dedicated to Cuban cinema and culture.
The Cuban Embassy in the United Kingdom would like to pay special tribute to the work of the festival’s coordinators, Doddie Weppler and Trish Meehan, as well as to the support of the institutions, organisations, artists and collaborators who have made this third edition possible.
