On the morning of Friday, December 2, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of the Granma Landing, Chargé d'Affaires Yordenis Despaigne Vera received at the Cuban diplomatic headquarters in Monrovia the Vice-President of Liberia, HE Joseph Nyumah Boakai. Accompanied by several ministers and deputy ministers, Mr. Boakai, on behalf of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, who is fulfilling commitments outside of Liberia, signed the book of condolences opened since last Monday 28 on the death of the eternal leader of the Cuban Revolution, Commander Fidel Castro Ruz. They also expressed their sympathies, respect and recognition to the Commander and to the Cuban people the high officials that integrated the governmental entourage.
During the exchange between the vice president and the head of the Cuban diplomatic mission, the island official reaffirmed Cuba's commitment to maintain and honor the Commander's legacy, his ongoing struggle for social justice, solidarity and internationalism. For his part, Mr. Boakai thanked Cuba for the support given to Liberia in one of the most difficult junctures that has lived the history of that country, as well as the leadership of Fidel in Africa. "He was a great leader for his people and he helped those who needed him the most," said the vice president, for whom Cuba is an undeniable example of solidarity.
