The U.S. blockade against Cuba was never merely a series of sanctions. It was a comprehensive plan of U.S. aggression aimed at subjugating, through deception and force, a people unwilling to abandon socialism. The United States not only prohibited American companies from trading with Cuba — an independent and sovereign country with the right to trade with other nations — but also threatened the entire world with massive sanctions, effectively preventing almost any economic, financial, or commercial relationship with Cuba.
Prominent figures from the academic, journalistic, artistic, and trade union spheres in Türkiye have signed a declaration of solidarity with the Cuban people promoted by the José Martí Friendship Association with Cuba, in the context of the tightening of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the Government of the United States.
