Miguel Díaz-Canel: Africa can always count on Cuba

The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, stated on Africa Day that this continent can always count on the island.

The president tweeted saying that the Spanish brought from Africa the ancestors of the current generations of Cubans, who returned in tens of thousands, voluntarily, to fight for the independence of African countries.

'Together we shed the shared blood; together we face the challenge of development,' wrote Díaz-Canel. 'Cuba has brought solidarity and brotherhood to a continent where empires have only brought contempt, wars and looting.'

Tribute to Africa Day next to the Tree of Solidarity

As part of the activities carried out by the Cuban Embassy in Ghana, on the occasion of Africa Day, the members of its staff, led by the Ambassador Pedro Luis Despaigne González, gathered around the “Tree of Solidarity” to reiterate their unbreakable friendship towards the mother continent.

As part of the activities on the occasion of the Africa Day, a representation of the Cuban Embassy, led by the Ambassador Pedro Luis Despaigne González, went to the home of Mr. King Ampaw, an important Ghanaian filmmaker, who has been awarded at important events in Africa and Europe.

Statement by Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, president of the Republic of Cuba for the Online Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in response to COVID-19

Your Excellencies,

Esteemed President Ilham Aliyev,

Distinguished Heads of State and Government,

I thank Azerbaijan, the Chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement, for calling to this meeting to exchange on the urgent and needed efforts which allow us to face COVID-19.

I avail myself of this occasion to congratulate Uganda, which shall assume the NAM Chairmanship in the year of 2022. While assuring it Cuba´s full support, we wish Uganda success in the performance of such duty.
