Statement by The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States on Cuban Medical Brigades

Sunday, June 21, 2020 — The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) expressed its deep appreciation to the Republic of Cuba for the medical support provided to six (6) member countries of the Organisation to assist with efforts to combat the spread of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the OECS and wider Caribbean region.

Cuban FM says Bolton's confessions confirm US danger

Havana, Jun 22, 2020.-The confessions of former US National Security Advisor John Bolton confirm the danger posed by the United States to regional stability, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said on Monday.

A foreign policy that responds to interests of domination, based on the Monroe Doctrine, lies, manipulates and intimidates, while it violates international law, Rodriguez pointed out on his Twitter account.

PM Says Region Will Pushback Against US Bill Targeting Cuban Healthcare Workers

June 22, 2020.- Prime Minister Gaston Browne says Antigua & Barbuda will lobby and pushback against a proposed US bill targeting Cuban healthcare workers.

He notes that the recent bill introduced by Republican Senator Rick Scott which classifies Cuba’s humanitarian assistance as “human trafficking” seeks to extend punitive measures against countries accepting this medical assistance.

“They will be literally punishing countries who utilize Cuba nurses and doctors,” he said.“We think that is extremely unfortunate,”the prime minister added.

Cuba detects three new cases of COVID-19 over the past 24 hours

Havana, June 23, 2020. - The National Director of Epidemiology of the Cuban Ministry of Public Health, Dr. Francisco Duran, reported that there were three new cases detected of COVID-19, for a total of 2,318 positive cases across the island.  

During his daily press briefing held Tuesday morning, Dr. Duran said that over the past 24 hours -- up to 12 midnight Monday night -- fortunately, no patients died from the coronavirus.  A total of 85 patients have died in Cuba over the past several months.

First of all I would like to welcome the initiative of the Government of Barbados, in its condition as Chair of the Council of Ministers of the Association of Caribbean States, of convening this meeting.
