Cambodia and Cuba have signed three memoranda of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the fields of health, education and foreign policy coordination, while Prime Minister Hun Sen also announced the provision of 6,000 tonnes of milled rice to the island nation during his state visit. Hun Sen and Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel witnessed the MoU signing ceremony on the second day of his September 23-25 visit.
Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to work with Cuba despite the latter’s economy sanctioned by the United States. The premier spoke during a courtesy call on Cuban president of the National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernandez, held on 24 September 2022. Esteban Lazo Hernandez said that the bilateral relations between Cambodia and Cuba so far are at a very high level, especially the visit by Samdech Techo to Cuba at this time is a testament to the improvement of bilateral relations.
Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen and high-level delegation arrived in Havana on 23 September 2023 (Cuba time). At the invitation of Cuban president Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermudez, the premier is paying an official visit to Cuba from 23-25 September 2022. Cuban is preparing to provide warm welcome to the third visit of Samdech Hun Sen, Ms Liurka Rodriguez Barrios, Ambassador of Cuba to Cambodia told AKP. “Now we are in the middle of the preparation for the Prime Minister’s visit. For Cuba, the Cambodian Prime Minister’s new visit is an important event. Cambodia has a very good historical relationship with us. It is an honorific occasion to receive him again in Cuba, ”she said.
