Chilling testimony of the torture and abuses committed against Majid Khan, held at the illegal Guantanamo Naval Base, after the September 11, 2001 attacks in New York and at the Pentagon, was recently presented by the prisoner before a jury of eight U.S. military officers, members of the court trying him.

Khan, born in Saudi Arabia and raised in Pakistan, was sentenced, October 29, to 26 years in prison after pleading guilty to aiding the Islamic fundamentalist group Al Qaeda.

September 26 is United Nations International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons (Nuclear Abolition Day). It was established in 2013 through the adoption of UN General Assembly resolution 68/32 to enhance "public awareness and education about the threat posed to humanity by nuclear weapons and the necessity for their total elimination, in order to mobilize international efforts towards achieving the common goal of a nuclear-weapon-free world."

We are living uncertain times. Under the demolishing impact of a pandemic that has worsened structural inequities and the global crisis, the role of multilateralism and the United Nations becomes ever more important. And international cooperation has been insufficient.

Cuba’s Ministry of Health (MINSAP) announced that 92.6 percent of the population over two years of age will have received three doses of COVID-19 vaccines by next month.

MINSAP Science and Innovation Director Ileana Morales confirmed that this policy goal implied increasing the production of vaccines to meet the expected demand. Previously, the Cuban pharmaceutical industry announced the production of 20 million doses of the Abdala vaccine and 10 million doses of the Soberana 02 and Soberana Plus vaccines.
