WTO: US-Imposed Tariffs on China Brake International Trade Rules

The international organization regulating world commerce found Tuesday that U.S. President Donald Trump breached global trade rules by instating multi-billion dollar tariffs in his trade war against China.

Washington rejected the report, alleging the more than $200 billion in tariffs imposed on Chinese products more than two years ago were justified as China was requiring companies to transfer technology and intellectual property.

Havana, Sep 15 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Tuesday criticized the United States' lack of commitment to the world, as expressed in its opposition to the United Nations resolution to respond to Covid-19.

On his Twitter account, the president noted that 'the imperial arrogance ignored the absolute support from the international community' for that resolution, which promotes a comprehensive and coordinated response to the pandemic.

'Once again the empire's perversity and lack of commitment to humankind is expressed,' the Cuban head of State twitted.

Havana, Sep 12 (Prensa Latina) Cuba's Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez affirmed on Saturday that his country honors its commitment to South-South cooperation through solidarity in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic.

'The Henry Reeve Brigades, inspired by those principles, support and save lives,' explained Rodriguez on Twitter, referring to the Day of South-South Cooperation, created by the UN General Assembly in 2012.

The Foreign Minister recalled that countries commemorate the Day of South-South Cooperation in a context worsened by the Covid-19 pandemic.

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The U.N. General Assembly overwhelmingly approved a wide-ranging resolution on tackling the coronavirus pandemic Friday over objections from the United States and Israel, which protested a successful last-minute Cuban amendment that strongly urged countries to oppose any unilateral economic, financial or trade sanctions.

The 193-member world body adopted the resolution by a vote of 169-2, with Ukraine and Hungary abstaining. It was a strong show of unity by the U.N.’s most representative body, though many countries had hoped for adoption by consensus.
