Press Release: Cuba on Agenda item “Improving the financial situation of the United Nations”.

New York, 13 October 2016. At the Main Session of the Fifth Committee, Cuba acknowledged today the efforts made by many Member States to fully comply with their payment obligations, particularly developing countries, mostly affected by the current global economic and financial situation and, hence, stated that consideration must be offered to the special situations experienced by some developing countries, which prevent them from fulfilling their financial commitments, regardless of their political will.

Press Release: “Cuba urges bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the peaceful uses of outer space”.

New York, 13 October 2016. At the General Debate on Agenda item “International cooperation in the peaceful uses of outer space”, Ambassador Humberto Rivero Rosario at the Fourth Committee, reaffirmed today Cuba’s position regarding the militarization of the outer space as one of the major threats to the future of human species and he called upon the international community to prevent outer space from becoming the next target of the arms race.

Press Release: "The Embargo violates international law/ extraterritorial application¨.

New York, 12 October 2016. Prohibition on ships reaching Cuban ports, to have access to ports in the United States, for a 6-month period, has a negative impact on the transport of goods to Cuba by sea. The renowned maritime consulting company Drewry Ltd. acknowledged that the main shipping companies which transport O/D containers (Origin/Destination) to Cuba, do so via trans-shipments using third harbors in the Caribbean.

New York, 11 October 2016. The Cuban delegate to the Sixth Committee Tanieris Diéguez Lao offered today great importance to the item: “The scope and application of the principle of universal jurisdiction”, at the time she reiterated Cuba’s concern for the inappropriate use of this principle in the unilateral, selective and politically motivated exercise of jurisdiction by tribunals in developing countries’, against natural or legal persons, from developing countries, without coming from an international norm or treaty.
