David Comissiong responds to an article with falsehoods about Cuba

The friendly Barbadian lawyer and social activist, David Comissiong, decided to submit a very progressive article to the Chief Editor of Daily Nation requesting to use the section “Guest Column” in order to respond a lot of falsehoods on the issue of the race which are included in a column of that newspaper on its April 24 issue, written by journalist Mohammed Iqbal Degia, who showed a complete ignorance on the Cuban revolutionary politics on racial discrimination; look at the full text of David´s article.

Successful working visit to Barbados by ICAP delegation

Elections of the People´s Power in Cuba. The new Parliament.

Esteban Lazo and Ana Mary Machado were reelected as President and Vice President of the People´s Power National Assembly (Cuban Parliament). Miriam Brito is the Secretary of the Assembly. Of the 605 Members of Parliament (Deputies), 287 are elected in their constituencies; 338 elected for the first time (55.8% renovation); the average is 49 years old; 80 deputies are between 18 to 35 years old and 530 (87.6&) were born after the triumph of the Revolution. Women represent the 53.22%.

New President and the Council of state have been elected in Cuba.

The electronic engineer Miguel Díaz Canel Bermudez has been elected as President and in that capacity he will preside over the Councils of State and Ministers, with Salvador Valdés Mesa as First Vice President and 5 other Vice Presidents, among which 3 are women. These are: Ramiro Valdés Menéndez (Commander of the Revolution); Gladys Bejerano Portela (Comptroller General); Dr Roberto Morales Ojeda (Minister of Public Health); Inés M. Chapman Waugh (President of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources); Beatriz Johnson Urrutia (President of the People's Power in Santiago de Cuba).

The first speech by the Cuban new elected President.

On the morning of April 19, a historic date on which not only is the first defeat of Yankee imperialism in the Americas commemorated, but Cuba also sees the inauguration of a new government that makes evident the continuity of the new generations with the legacy of the historic generation that founded the Cuban Revolution in the highest leadership positions of the country, comrade Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, offered his first speech as President of the Councils of State and of Ministers of Cuba.
