Cuba and Saint Lucia Sign Agricultural Agreement

Castries, October 5, 2018.

The Saint Lucian Minister responsible for Agriculture, the Honorable Ezechiel Joseph, signed on October 5, 2018 the Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Agriculture of Cuba (MINAGRI), which was represented by Ambassador Jorge Francisco Soberon Luis.

During the signing ceremony of the agreement, the Saint Lucian Minister mentioned the satisfactory results of his visit to Cuba in 2018 to evaluate the exchange opportunities.

42nd Anniversary of the 1976 CUBANA´s terrorist sabotage was commemorated in Barbados.

In a solemn ceremony presided over by several ministers and high officials of the government of Barbados, civil society organizations and the accredited diplomatic corps, tribute was paid to the victims of the terrorist attack against the CU-455 flight of CUBANA on October 6, 1976 on the west coasts of this Caribbean island. The Minister of Foreign Trade in the Chancellery, Cheryl Sandra Husbands, the Minister of the Environment, Trevor Prescod, and the Deputy Foreign Minister of Foreign Affairs, Simone Rudder, accompanied Cuban Ambassador Francisco Fernández to lay a wreath in remembrance of the victims. The General Consul of Guyana, Cita Pilgrim, the Secretary General of the Barbados-Cuba Friendship Association, David Denny, and Yaima Payne, president of the Association of Cuban Residents "Mártires de Barbados", also took the floor to condemn terrorism and express their condolences to the relatives of the 73 civilians killed in that despicable sabotage.

Zimbabwe will vote once again against the unjust economic blockade that the United States has imposed on Cuba for almost 60 years, in the United Nations as it does every year. This was said by the Director of Multilaterals of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Zimbabwe, Ambassador Mr. Vusumuzi Ntonga, in the meeting he held today with the Ambassador of Cuba Carmelina Ramírez.

With H.E. Mr. Nguyen Hai Bang, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam to Thailand, paying tribute to the recently deceased former Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and former Prime Minister Do Muoi.

On behalf of the people and government of the Republic of Cuba, I conveyed to the people and government of that country our deepest sorrow for the passing away on October 1st of a dear friend of Cuba.
