Namibia celebrates 58th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution

Windhoek, January 17, 2017. - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of Namibia, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, presided with the Cuban ambassador in Windhoek, H.E. Giraldo Mazola, the commemoration of the 58th anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution celebrated in the Cuban with the attendance of more than a hundred guests.

In his words to the present, Ambassador Mazola referred to the main events of bilateral relations, on which he expressed his satisfaction with the progress made. He also narrated the most important events that occurred in Cuba during 2016 emphasizing that the process of normalization of relations between Cuba and the United States will still transit through a long period of time and will undoubtedly be marked by the necessity of the elimination for the unilateral the US Blockade. He also paid tribute to the Commander Fidel and thanked Namibia for its unwavering support.

For her part, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah stressed the excellent state of bilateral relations and stated that the friendship between Cuba and Namibia is indestructible. She also once again paid a posthumous tribute to the Commander in Chief Fidel Castro by pointing out that his ideas are unmatched and the impact of that historical figure can never be underestimated in Namibia. Ndaitwah also rejected the US blockade on Cuba as a deadly policy and urged the new administration of that country to lift it immediately. Netumbo announced that it will again sponsor a resolution condemning the blockade at the next Summit of Heads of State of the African Union to be held this January in Addis Ababa.

A hundred participants, including friends of solidarity, representatives of the Swapo party, former Namibian leaders, several ministers, Cuban collaborators and residents, witnessed an emotional event that marked the 58th anniversary of the Revolution, which also served to confirm that the ties of friendship between the two peoples are at the highest level.

The exceptional Honduran poet and academic has among his works: "Driving with Neruda to the Fish 'n' Chips", "Xibalbá, Texas" and "Retratos mal hablados". The last one won a special mention in the category of poetry in Casa de las Américas Award 2013.

Indian magazine dedicates special issue to Fidel Castro
