Latin America reacts to end of “wet-foot/dry-foot” policy

Governments of countries affected by the irregular emigration of Cubans to the United States reacted positively to the agreement reached between the two countries, which aims to ensure regular, safe and orderly migration of Cuban citizens, and includes the elimination of the parole program for Cuban medical professionals and “wet-foot/dry-foot” policy, first implemented by the Clinton administration in 1995, and maintained for over 20 years by successive U.S. governments.

U.S. imposes more fines to enforce the blockade

On January 12 and 13, 2017, the U.S. Treasury Department imposed fines on the nonprofit organization Alliance for Responsible Cuba Policy (ARCP) and the Canadian bank Toronto Dominion (TD), for $10,000 and $955,750, respectively, for alleged violations of blockade regulations.

Santo Domingo, Jan 19 (Prensa Latina) Dominican social movements announced today a meeting to support the 5th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, CELAC,which will take place from January 21 to 25 in Punta Cana.
The event organized by the Dominican Coordinator of trade unions, social, peasants, popular, youth, femininist and solidarity organizations.

The Cuban Ambassador talks to the Vice President of Ghana

The Cuban Ambassador on Ghana, Pedro Luis Despaigne González, exchanged with the Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President of the Republic of Ghana. It was perform in the city of Kumasi, where the Ambassador traveled to participate in the funeral ceremonies given to the Queen mother of the Ashanti Kingdom, the Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, who passed away in November 2016 at the age of 111 years.
