Cuba vigorously protests United States of America’s granting of asylum to an aircraft hijacker
Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
On 27 February 2023, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Fernández de Cossío, summoned the United States Chargé D’Affaires, Benjamin Ziff, to the Ministry, to formally convey Cuba’s vigorous protest at the granting of political asylum to the Cuban citizen Rubén Martínez Machado, perpetrator of the hijacking of a Cuban civil aircraft on 21 October 2022.
Cuban president talks with Pope Francis' envoy
Havana, February 8, 2023.- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel held an exchange in Havana on Wednesday with H.E.R. Cardinal Beniamino Stella, envoy of Pope Francis.
Through his Twitter account, the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba recalled the 25th anniversary of John Paul II's apostolic trip to Cuba, noting that the historic visit marked a transcendental moment in relations between the Vatican and the Island.
Cuban ambassador gives a lecture on the History of Cuba to Bahamian students.
Nassau, February 6th, 2023. Fulfilling an invitation from the directors of the San Pedro International School in Nassau, the Cuban ambassador Julio César González Marchante, held a dialogue on the Cuban Revolution with 12th grade students, in the turn corresponding to the history class.
A group of Cuban teachers residing in the country work at the educational Center and there is a tradition of joint work with the Diplomatic mission. The students of that Center have regularly participated in contests and tributes to José Martí.
Minister of Education of the Bahamas visits Cuba.
Nassau, February 2nd, 2023. The Minister of Education of The Bahamas, Glenys Hanna-Martin traveled to Cuba to participate in the International Congress Pedagogy 2023.
She also attended the meeting of the Ministers of Education and heads of delegations of the G77+China, which met at the Havana Convention Center.
