Cuban Ambassador Francisco Fernández held a fraternal exchange with the Honorable Senator Dr. Jerome Walcott, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Barbados, prior to the first bilateral meeting to be held shortly by the president of the Councils of State and Ministers of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, and the Honorable Mia Mottley, Prime Minister of Barbados, during her attendance at the sessions of the UN General Assembly. The meeting served to confirm details of the scheduled meeting of both leaders in New York the following week, in which the priorities of the bilateral agenda will be updated, as well as other aspects related to regional integration and multilateral affairs, including historical support from Barbados to the Cuban struggle for the unconditional lifting of the blockade imposed by the USA.
Minister of Energy of Barbados to evaluate cooperation with Cuba.
Barbadian Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Wilfred Abraham, received the Cuban Ambassador Francisco Fernández, to evaluate modalities of implementing bilateral cooperation, particularly in the field of energy from renewable sources and noted that his government identifies this area as one of the strategic ones to recover the economy of the country and advance in the sustainable economic growth. For his part, the Cuban diplomat welcomed that this friendly meeting took place, recognizing that both countries are striving to find combined solutions through which renewable sources contribute to reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
Cuba's sports cooperation with Barbados to be extended.
The acting executive director of the National Sports Council (CND) Barbados, Mona Alleyne, gave a warm welcome to Cuban coaches on their arrival in Barbados, after the signing of the contract extending the cooperation for another two years, until summer 2020. The arrival took place just before the start of the new school year, for them to be fully incorporated into the physical education classes in the primary and secondary schools of the country, as well as methodological advice in the seven disciplines established, in coordination with the federations and national clubs on the island. Cuba's ambassador, Francisco Fernández, highlighted the event that takes place during the preparations for the official visit to Havana by the Minister of Sports and Culture of Barbados, John King, while attending the International Congress Cuba-Motricity 2018, next 22-25 of October .
Two Cuban dance teachers working successfully in Barbados
Hired by Praise Dance Academy, for the first time two Cuban teachers have been teaching girls and young Barbadians techniques in the modalities of classical ballet and contemporary dance. With a year of fruitful accumulated work, Laura Álvarez teaches classical ballet and has seen how her pupils progress, who in an international inter-school competition in which they recently participated in Havana were finalists. In the other hand, dancer Wendy Ferrer taught a short course in the modality of contemporary dance, during her stay in Barbados invited to participate in the Summer Camp organized by the Academy.
Cuban Wrestling expert teaches course in Barbados.
Professor Julio Mendieta, head of Cuban wrestling coaches, was invited by the World Union of Wrestling (UWW) to provide an international course in Barbados, from 28 August to 4 September 2018, which benefited the Caribbean coaches. At the opening ceremony, the Executive Director of the National Sports Council (CND), Mona Alleyne highlighted Cuban cooperation in the subregion, while the President of the Barbadian Wrestling Federation, Rollins Alleyne, said this opportunity will lead to a new stage in the incipient development of this discipline in his country.
