Cuban Ambassador to Canada Gives Interview to La Presse
Ottawa, March 1, 2019.- On the morning of Thursday, February 28, Cuban Ambassador Josefina Vidal Ferreiro, gave an interview to Mr. Réjean Bourdeau from Québec French-language La Presse newspaper, at the Embassy of Cuba in Canada.
During the interview, the Ambassador Vidal Ferreiro commented on her most recent official visit to Québec City. She highlighted the traditional positive ties between Cuba and Québec —which have been consolidated after the signing in 2016 of the Joint Declaration between the Ministry of International Relations and La Francophonie of Québec and the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Trade and Investment and the opening of the Québec Office in Havana, in 2017— and referred to the existing potentials to broaden these relations in various areas.
Declaration by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba strongly rejects the disrespectful statement issued by the US State Department, attributed to Secretary of State Michael Pompeo, which intends to question the constitutional referendum that was freely and sovereignly held by all Cubans on February 24 last.
The text of the statement is an expression of the imperialist ideas which are deeply rooted in the foreign policy of the current US administration.
Cuban Film Cuba Libre Screened in Ottawa
Ottawa, February 22, 2019.- The Embassy of Cuba in Ottawa in cooperation with the Spanish Program at the University of Ottawa, hosted the screening of the Cuban film Cuba Libre directed by Jorge Luis Sánchez.
Prior to the viewing of the film at the University of Ottawa, a Spanish Language student Rachel presented the movie, which portrays the last months of the Cuban-Spanish-American War that led to the subsequent US military occupation of Cuba, a particularly sensitive period in the history of the island.
Cuban Ambassador to Canada Pays First Official Visit to Québec
Quebec, February 21, 2019.- Ambassador of Cuba to Canada, H.E. Josefina Vidal Ferreiro, made her first official visit to Québec, where she was received by Québec Lieutenant Governor the Honourable Michel Doyon; the Speaker of the National Assembly of Québec Mr. François Paradis; the Minister of International Relations and La Francophonie Ms. Nadine Girault; and Mr. Pierre Fitzgibbon, Minister of Economics and Innovation.
Ambassador Vidal Ferreiro's agenda also included meetings with Ms. Paule Robitaille, MP for Bourassa-Sauvé (Liberal Party), Official Opposition Critic for International Relations and Francophonie; Mr. Pascal Bérubé, MP for Matane-Matepédia (Parti Québécois); Leader of the Second Opposition Group; Mr. Sol Zanetti, MP for Jean-Lessie (Quebec Solidaire), Leader of the Third Opposition Group; and with Mr. Rénald Bergeron, Vice-Rector for External, International and Health Affairs at the University of Laval.
Funds Raised in Toronto to Aid Tornado Victims
Toronto, February 22nd, 2019.- On Thursday night, there was a fundraising event in this city for the victims of the tornado that hit the Cuban capital on January 27.
Organized by the Association of Cuban Residents in Toronto "Juan Gualberto Gómez", the event also brought together members of solidarity groups with Cuba, among which were the Cuban-Canadian Friendship Association, the Latin American Solidarity Network and Consulate officials General of Cuba in this city.
