The soccer team of the Diplomatic Corps continues undefeated.

Wellington, April 23. The soccer team of the Diplomatic Corps, made up of diplomats and family members, under the direction of the Cuban ambassador, defeated the Hutt City Council team.

With this victory, they managed to keep the trophy obtained last year.

The friendly match was an excellent opportunity to share and promote the practice of sports among diplomats and local officials.

 

Cuban diplomats attend Iftar dinner.

Wellington, April 3. Ambassador Edgardo Valdés and Consul Dalila Vázquez attended the Iftar dinner organized by the Heads of Mission of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation accredited in this city.

Both shared the table with the guest of honor and speaker on behalf of the New Zealand Government, Hon. Priyanca Radhakrishnan, Minister of Diversity Inclusion and Ethnic Communities, and with the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, H.E Ahmad Alwehaib, Ambassador of Kuwait.

It was an honor to accompany our colleagues in this important event in the month of Ramadan.

 

Cuban Ambassador receives political analyst Geoffrey Miller.

Wellington, March 31. New Zealand political analyst Geoffrey Miller visited the Embassy for an exchange with Ambassador Edgardo Valdés on international politics, Cuba-New Zealand relations and other topics of interest.

Miller is a renowned geopolitical analyst, and a member of the Democracy Project, with a fresh approach to various issues on the current world stage.

He invited the Ambassador to give a lecture on Cuba at the University of Otago.

Former Disarmament Minister Matt Robson visits the Cuban Embassy.

Wellington, March 28. Former Disarmament Minister Matt Robson, an active member of solidarity with Cuba in New Zealand, visited the Cuban headquarters.

Robson shared his experiences on his recent trip to Cuba to participate in the event "For the Balance of the World" and spoke with the Ambassador about the impact of United States policy on the Cuban population.

Both commented on the international situation and future solidarity actions in favor of the right of Cubans to self-determination.

 

Cuban diplomats visited the city of New Plymouth.

New Plymouth, March 19. From March 17 to 19, Ambassador Edgardo Valdés and Consul Dalila Vázquez visited this city, to support the Cuban representation at the WOMAD festival and hold meetings with different personalities.

In addition to attending the presentations by Cimafunk and his group, they had a brief meeting with Vice Prime Minister Carmel Sepuloni, in charge of the official opening of the event.

New Plymouth, March 17. Cimafunk and his group successfully performed at the 20th edition of the World of Music and Dance Festival (WOMAD) in this city.

On the night of the 17th, they combined several songs with a Cuban cooking demonstration, at the end of which the audience enjoyed the tostones and shrimp broth prepared during the performance.

In the prime time on Saturday the 18th, they performed on the main stage, for thousands of fans who danced all the time to the rhythm of their songs.

On Sunday the 19th they repeated their success at night.

Cuban diplomats participate in a public event for women's rights.

Wellington, March 5. Ambassador Edgardo Valdés and Consul Dalila Vázquez participated together with activists and union leaders in a public meeting against violence and discrimination for any reason, and in favor of women's rights.

In his speech, the Ambassador highlighted Cuba's achievements in this area and the challenges that still lie ahead.

Similar events were held simultaneously this Sunday in various cities in New Zealand.

 

Cuban Ambassador meets new Prime Minister of New Zealand.

Waitangi, February 5. Ambassador Edgardo Valdés spoke briefly with the new Prime Minister, the Right Honorable Chris Hipkins, at the conclusion of the military ceremony for Waitangi Day.

Hipkins expressed satisfaction with the meeting and highlighted his desire to visit Cuba.

For his part, the Cuban diplomat congratulated the president, wished him success in his job, and expressed that he will be welcome on the island at any time.

 

Cuban diplomats meet with the leader of the New Zealand/Cuba Friendship Society.

Hastings, January 28. Ambassador Edgardo Valdés and Consul Dalila Vázquez met in this city with Warren Brewer, who has dedicated many years to solidarity with Cuba.

Warren heads the New Zealand/Cuba Friendship Society, which coordinates the efforts of various solidarity groups with the island.

Cuban officials thanked him for his work in support of the Revolution and shared ideas to strengthen solidarity actions in the future.

 

Cuban Ambassador participates in events for International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Wellington, January 27. Ambassador Edgardo Valdés participated today in the events for the UN International Holocaust Remembrance Day, in this city.

In the Makara Cemetery, together with the Mayor, H.W Tory Whanau, and the Member of Parliament, the Honorable Grant Robertson, attendees listened to stories and testimonies and placed stones on the monument in honor of the victims of the Holocaust.

Later, in Parliament, Robertson stressed the importance of building hate-free societies and remembering the tragedy, so it doesn't happen again.
