Ambassador Alvarez Núñez says that January is an importan, special month for Cuba, as it is also the month in which Cuba celebrates the 59th anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution.
In her opening words, Alvarez Núñez underlined the values of the Cuban cuisine which are related to the mixture of cultures that shape the Cuban identity: indienous people from Cuba and Yucatan, Spain, Africa and Asia. The Food Festival marks the beginning of the celebrations for the 60th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution, which will take place all year-long.
During the friendly meeting, both parties remembered the historic relations of FAHA and Cuba, which has bear beautiful fruits in cities of the province of Matanzas such as the municipality of Cárdenas.
The visit was a great opportunity to exchange about their experiences with diverse topics related to primary healthcare in Cuba.
In its 2017 edition, the Embassy Festival gathered members from 43 diplomatic representations, 30 artists from several countries and genres. It is estimated that around 35 thousands visitors attended this faur, one of the most succesful ones in the last few years.
The main purpose of this network is to build and expand medical collaboration between Cuba and the Netherlands on the basis of respect to human dignity and equality, and other principles such as solidarity, prevention of diseases and the promotion of health care.
During the visit, the Ambassador met IHE Delft’s new Rector, Eddy Moors, staff and Cuban partners who had been involved in the project.
In the meeting, both parties identify means and modalities to foster Cuba's involvement in projects of institutional cooperation, capacity training and other services offered by Nuffic with funds from the Dutch government for different purposes inthe fields of education in developing countries.
The meeting served as an opportunity to announce some major upcoming tourism, trade and business events that will take place in Cuba in 2017.
In her welcome remarks, Alvarez Núñez thanked the audience for accepting her invitation, subsequent to which she enumerated the successes and hurdles her beloved country, Cuba, faced during the course of 2016. Ambassador Soraya Alvarez Núñez also paid homage to the departed leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.
