Premier of Niue visits Cuban Embassy.
Wellington, February 27. The Honorable Dalton Tagelagi, Premier of Niue, and his delegation visited the Cuban Embassy during their visit to New Zealand.
On the occasion, Ambassador Edgardo Valdés presented the Credentials that accredit him as ambassador to that Pacific nation.
At the meeting, both parties recalled the cooperation between the two countries since the establishment of diplomatic relations in September 2014 and evaluated new ways to strengthen bilateral ties.

A Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs refers that the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Fernández de Cossío, summoned the United States Chargé D’Affaires, Benjamin Ziff, to the Ministry, to formally convey Cuba’s vigorous protest at the granting of political asylum to the Cuban citizen Rubén Martínez Machado, the perpetrator of the hijacking of a Cuban civil aircraft on 21 October 2022.
Cuba appoints representative to coordinate presidency of the G-77 + China.
Havana, February 17. The Council of State of Cuba appointed Pedro Luis Pedroso Cuesta as ambassador, special representative, to coordinate the presidency of the Group of 77 plus China.
Cuba assumed in January the presidency of this coordination mechanism that brings together 134 member states, which represent two-thirds of the United Nations system and 80 percent of the world population.

Russell, February 5. Ambassador Edgardo Valdés and Consul Dalila Vázquez attended a lunch hosted by the Governor General of New Zealand, H.E. The Right Honorable Dame Cindy Kiro, and her husband Dr. Richard Davies, as part of the Waitangi Day celebrations.
They exchanged their experiences during the activities carried out around the date and wished each other success in 2023.
The Cuban ambassador attended all the activities of the official program and collaterally held meetings with politicians and other personalities.
Cuban Ambassador meets new Prime Minister of New Zealand.
Waitangi, February 5. Ambassador Edgardo Valdés spoke briefly with the new Prime Minister, the Right Honorable Chris Hipkins, at the conclusion of the military ceremony for Waitangi Day.
Hipkins expressed satisfaction with the meeting and highlighted his desire to visit Cuba.
For his part, the Cuban diplomat congratulated the president, wished him success in his job, and expressed that he will be welcome on the island at any time.
