Ambassador of Cuba realize official visit to Abia State in Nigeria

Nigeria, February 23, 2017. On February 21 and 22, Cuban Ambassador Carlos Trejo Sosa visited to the State of Abia, located in southeastern Nigeria, at the invitation of his Governor.

The Ambassador held a meeting with Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, State Governor and several members of his cabinet, including the Minister of Health of the territory. The meeting took place in a friendly atmosphere of mutual respect, in accordance with the existing ties between the two countries.

African Union condemns U.S. blockade

On the last day of the African Union Summit, held in Ethiopia, Heads of State and Government of the continental organization reaffirmed their unanimous rejection of the genocidal policy against Cuba.

On January 31, the 28th African Union (AU) Summit, held in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Abeba, approved a resolution demanding an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba for more than half a century.

Special Declaration of the Heads of State and Government of Latin America and the Caribbean, (CELAC), gathered in Punta Cana, the Dominican Republic, on occasion of its 5th Summit on January 25th, 2017

1. Reiterating its commitment to multilateralism and to the principles enshrined in The Charter of the United Nations and International Law, including sovereign equality and territorial integrity of States;

2. Reaffirming the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, adopted at its Second Summit in Havana on January 29th, 2014;

3. Reaffirming the Special Declaration on the return to the Republic of Cuba of the territory occupied by the United States Naval Base in Guantánamo, approved in the 4th CELAC Summit, on January 27th, 2016;

Reaffirming their strongest rejection of economic coercive measures not supported by the International Law, including all those unilateral actions imposed on sovereign countries for political reasons that impair the well-being of their peoples and are designed to prevent these countries from exercising their right to decide, by their own free will, their political, economic and social systems.

Minister of Finance of Nigeria received to the Cuban Ambassador

On Thursday, January 19, the Minister of Finance of Nigeria, Kemi Adeosun, received the Cuban Ambassador, Carlos Trejo Sosa, at the headquarters of the institution. The meeting took place in a friendly ambience, in keeping with the relationship between two countries.

Ambassador Trejo offered an update on the Cuban economy and the opportunities that our country has in different sectors, from which bilateral collaboration could be established, especially at health and education.
