Monrovia, February 8, 2023 - At the invitation of UN Women in Liberia, Cuban Head of Mission Mercedes L. Martinez Herrera held a cordial and friendly meeting with Jaha Marie Dukureh, UN Women Goodwill Ambassador for Africa on the eradication of female genital mutilation (FGM) and child marriage, and with Alison Rowe, Senior Advisor on Gender Equality at UN Women.
During the excellent exchange, they discussed issues involving women in the development of today's society.
For her part, Cuban diplomat Martínez Herrera pointed out that it is necessary to eliminate any type of discrimination against women and girls around the world, and that gender equality is a basic pillar of Human Rights and UN values.
Present in every sector of the economy, women are an indispensable force to guarantee the prosperous development of the nation. Cuban women have a high level of education and professional qualification. They excel in education, health, commerce, agriculture and other areas.
