Cuban Ambassador demands the lifting of the blockade against Cuba

Interview to Daily Observer

Banjul, October 20th, 2016.- The Ambassador of Cuba to Banjul, Lázaro Herrera, denounced this evening the purposes of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against the island and demanded its lifting, in concordance with the claims of the Cuban people and of the international community.

The diplomat explained the essence of that policy and the declared purposes for which it was designed, just one year and four months after the triumph of the Cuban revolution and highlighted the high cost in economic terms, equivalent to over $125,873,000,000 at constant prices, as well as the concrete impact caused for it in all walks of life of the ordinary Cuban citizens.

Also, Herrera noted that the international community, represented by the countries members of the United Nations has demanded for 24 consecutive years, in equal number of resolutions adopted by vote at the General Assembly, the cessation of this unjust and criminal policy and last year 2015, all countries represented in this organization, with the already well known exceptions of United States and Israel, demanded the end of the blockade.

The Cuban official, on behalf of the Cuban people and Government, thanked the support of the Gambian Government and people to the fair battle to put an end to this criminal policy.
Other important aspects on the present moment of Cuba-US relations, as well as the fraternal links between Cuba and The Gambia, were also covered.
