The traditional scenario of the VolksstimmeFest, annually organized by the Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ, by its German initials); held from 31 August to 1 September in Vienna, was an appropriate occasion to denounce the illegal economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by US against Cuba and its tightening by President Trump Administration.
The persistence and the damages caused by the blockade presented in Cuba´s Report which was published by virtue of Resolution 73/8 entitled: Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba, adopted by the UN General Assembly on 1 November 2018, were denounced by the Embassy of Cuba in Austria; “Cuba Va”, the Association of Cuban Residents in this country; ÖKG, the Austria-Cuba Friendship Association and other leftist and friendship organizations with Cuba in Europe.
In the framework of the event, the joint presentation of the Cuban Ambassador to Austria, Mr. Juan Antonio Fernández Palacios, and the Venezuelan Ambassador Mr. Jesse Chacón Escamillo, on 1 September on the Latin American current situation and the history of US intervention in the region was highlighted. It was an interesting topic that arose an active debate which denounced US interventionist and aggressive policy and the implementation of blockades and sanctions by this country against Cuba and Venezuela. This event was supported by the solidarity organisations “ÖKG” and the “ALBA Austria Association”.
Besides, the book entitled: Cuba en cambios (Cuba in Changes) was launched on 31 August at the ÖKG stand by Michael Wögerer, President of this solidarity organization, who was part of the group of authors. The presentation and debate contributed to provide objective information on the process of updating the Cuban economic and social model and on the obstacles imposed by the blockade on the development of Cuban society in all its sectors.
Once again the Festival constituted a propitious scenario to offer the most updated information about Cuba; shared with other leftist parties and organizations of the world. It also allowed integrating even more the Cuban residents and friends of Cuba in Austria, around the support to the Cuban Revolution.
