President Pro-Tempore of the Liberian Senate receives Cuban Chargé d'Affaires.

Monrovia, February 26, 2020 - Today the President Pro-Tempore of the Senate of Liberia Honorable Mr. Albert Tugbe Chie received at the Senate headquarters the Cuban Chargé d'Affaires Mercedes L. Martinez Herrera.

The meeting showed the interest of both parties in strengthening bilateral relations at the parliamentary level. 

Senator Albert T. Chie advocated the establishment of closer ties with the Cuban parliament and expressed the admiration of the senators, government and people of Liberia for Cuba's achievements in health, education, sports, among other areas. He thanked the Cuban aid workers for their help during the period when the Ebola virus hit Liberia, and conveyed the desire to strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation with our nation.

For her part, the Head of the Cuban Diplomatic Mission thanked the position maintained by this African country against the U.S. blockade, updated on the most recent measures adopted by the Trump administration, their extraterritorial nature and the impact they have on the Cuban people and on third countries. He also explained the changes made on the island with the implementation of the new Constitution, which accentuates the process of improving the institutionality of the State.

The Honorable J. Gbleh-bo Brown, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Internal Affairs, Good Governance and Reconciliation, also participated in the meeting. 

The exchange took place in an affable and friendly atmosphere.
