FOCUS demands an end to the US blockade

Pretoria, 11 May 2024 - The Friends of Cuba Society (FOCUS) demanded today that the United States end the illegal economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on the Cuban people for more than 60 years. It also demands that the US government remove Cuba from the unilateral list of so-called "state sponsors of terrorism", a measure that has been condemned by most peace-loving countries around the world.

Cuba and South Africa celebrate 30 years of diplomatic relations

Pretoria, May 11, 2024 - Cuba and South Africa are celebrating today the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, characterised by the spirit of brotherhood between both governments and peoples. Although the first contacts date back to the early 1960s when young South Africans from the anti-apartheid forces started to arrive to Cuba to receive medical care or vocational training in medicine and science.

Pretoria, May 8, 2024.- In the framework of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and South Africa, the Cuban Ambassador to Pretoria, Enrique Orta González, was interviewed by different media outlets, including Prensa Latina and SABC News, in which he highlighted the excellent state of ties between Havana and Pretoria, as well as the will to continue strengthening them.

South Africa present at the International Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba

Havana, May 2, 2024 - With the presence of the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, the final sessions of the International Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba and against imperialism began today, with the participation of more than 1,100 delegates from 58 countries, including South Africa, and representatives of 220 organisations.

May Day celebration of dignity and resistance

Havana, May 1st, 2024 - The streets of Havana were taken over, this Wednesday, from very early hours by those who arrived at the José Martí Anti-imperialist Tribune, a stage where nearly 200 thousand inhabitants of five municipalities of the capital and more than 1000 delegates from other countries, including South Africa, gathered to celebrate this May Day, International Workers' Day.
