Cuba Denounces U.S. Aggressive Escalation at WTO

Geneva, May 4 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban government denounced before the WTO the current aggressive escalation against the island by the United States and criticized that country for undermining multilateralism in international relations.

During a speech before the Trade Negotiations Committee of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Ambassador Pedro L. Pedroso questioned the strengthening of the U.S. blockade against Cuba.

American Association of Jurists Recognizes Lula as Political Prisoner

Brasilia, May 3 (Prensa Latina) The American Association of Jurists (AAJ) recognized in a statement the ex-Brazilian president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva as a political prisoner and this Friday joins the international campaign for his immediate release.

A non-governmental organization with consultative status in the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, the AAJ denounced last year the persecution against the former worker leader during the General Assembly of the 39th session of the UN Human Rights Council.

On Twitter, the president -who turns 59 this Saturday- also warned that in the northern nation itself the anti-Cuban measures of the current administration, which this week decided to activate the controversial Title III of the Helms-Burton Act, an initiative in force since 1996 to promote regime change in Cuba, are causing concern.
