Cuban president reiterates the need to comply with immigration agreements with the U.S.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel reiterated Sunday the need for full compliance with the agreements signed with the United States as the only way to achieve regular, orderly, and safe migratory flows between the two countries.

 The blockade constitutes the main obstacle to Cuba's development and therefore, deteriorates the standard of living of the Cuban people; being a fundamental cause of migration, the head of state wrote on Twitter.

Cuba strongly rejects coup actions in Brazil.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel today condemned the coup actions of groups supporting former president Jair Bolsonaro, who assaulted the buildings of the three seats of state powers in Brazil.

"We strongly condemn the violent and anti-democratic acts occurring in Brazil, with the aim of generating chaos and disrespecting the popular will expressed with the election of President Lula," the president said on Twitter.

"We express our full support and solidarity to @LulaOficial and his government."

Official mourning declared in Cuba for the death of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel decreed Official Mourning in Cuba for the death of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. 

The Official Mourning will begin from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight on Thursday, January 5, according to the Official Gazette of the Republic, which published Presidential Decree 552/2023 in its Extraordinary Edition Number 1 of this year.

During the period of the Official Mourning, the Cuban flag will be hoisted at half-mast in public buildings and military institutions.

Díaz-Canel: Working with passion in 2023 to continue overcoming impossibilities.

Havana, December 30, 2022.- The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, called on the members of the Council of Ministers to work with passion and enthusiasm in 2023 to continue overcoming the impossible, during the last session of this year of the highest body of the Cuban government.
