At the UN, Cuba reaffirms the importance of international cooperation in ensuring universal access to water

Ambassador Yuri A. Gala López, Chargé d'Affaires, a.i. of the Permanent Mission of Cuba to the United Nations, spoke at the meeting held to analyze the topics proposed for the interactive dialogues of the Water 2026 Conference.

In his speech, he stressed the importance of water as an essential resource for sustainable development and human survival. He also pointed out that irrational consumer societies and the aggravated impact of climate change have exacerbated pressures on access to drinking water and sanitation.

At the UN, Cuba reaffirms its commitment to promoting regional zones of peace and defending multilateralism

Ambassador Yuri A. Gala López, Chargé d'Affaires, a.i. of the Permanent Mission of Cuba to the United Nations, addressed the General Assembly's high-level meeting on regional zones of peace.

During his speech, the Cuban diplomat stressed that promoting regional zones of peace and cooperation among them is especially significant in a world still ravaged by wars and where genocide against the Palestinian civilian population is committed with total impunity.

The anti-Cuban document released by the U.S. government on June 30, 2025, consists of a reissue and amendment of the National Security Presidential Memorandum No. 5 that the US government itself had issued on June 16, 2017, at the beginning of Donald Trump's first term.

Cuba categorically denounces and rejects both versions of the infamous document.

During the plenary session of the United Nations General Assembly on item 132: "The responsibility to protect and the prevention of genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity", the Chargé d'Affaires, a.i. of Cuba to the UN, Ambassador Yuri Ariel Gala López, stated that it is a serious conceptual error to treat the "Responsibility to Protect" as a principle of International Law, since it lacks recognized legal status.
