In her address to the Preparatory Committee for the Review Conference of the Programme of Action to Prevent, Combat and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects, Ms. Lillianne Sánchez Rodríguez, Second Secretary of the Permanent Mission of Cuba to the United Nations, reaffirmed the full validity and effect of the Programme of Action, an instrument to prevent, combat and eradicate the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons in all its aspects and an international benchmark in this area.

Today Cuba addressed the 62nd session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CWS), which takes place from 12 to 23 March this year under the theme: "Challenges and opportunities in achieving gender equality and the empowerment of rural women and girls", where proudly announced that, after the recently concluded general elections in Cuba, the presence of women in the National Assembly amounts to 53.22%, being the second parliament with largest female representation in the world.

Cuban expert Dennis Casares Benítez, from the General Division for Multilateral Affairs and International Law of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, heads the Cuban delegation that is participating in the second formal session of intergovernmental negotiations to adopt a Global Compact for safe, orderly and regular migration.
