Press Release 71 UNGA: “Cuba and its unwavering commitment with the eradication of colonialism”.

New York, 6 October 2016.The Deputy Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, Ambassador Ana Silvia Rodríguez Abascal, pointed out today within the Fourth Committee Agenda item: “The implementation of the Declaration on the granting of independence to colonial countries and peoples”, that despite the 80 territories that left behind their colonial past and are now UN Members, colonialism has not been eliminated and is still a pending subject.

At the Third Committee, on Agenda items 106: Prevention of Crime and Criminal Justice and 107: International Drug Control, the Deputy Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, Ambassador Ana Silvia Rodríguez Abascal underscored the magnitude reached and cost in social and humanitarian terms of drug trafficking nowadays and called upon its consideration in a comprehensive, balanced and multidisciplinary manner.

Press Release: "Impact of the Embargo on the foreign sector of the Cuban economy finances."

New York, 5 October 2016. After almost two years since the Governments of Cuba and the United States decided to re-establish their diplomatic relations and to begin a process towards the normalization of their ties, there are no substantial changes in the application of the Embargo policy on the National Banking System. There is still persecution and harassment on Cuban monetary assets abroad, as well as the imposition of other obstacles preventing Cuban banks from normally carrying out their international transactions.
