Statement by the President of the Councils of State and Ministers, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, in the "Nelson Mandela Peace Summit”

Mrs. President:

We are so happy and take comfort in the fact that the United Nations General Assembly is convening a peace summit, and that such summit has been named after Nelson Mandela.

Less than 30 years ago, beloved Madiba was a political prisoner in the apartheid jails, serving a life sentence as a result of his noble struggle for justice and equality among all men and women in South Africa, where a white minority was subjecting the black majority to the scorn of segregation.

Vietnames leaders welcomed Cuban First Vice President

The first vice president of the Councils of State and Ministers of Cuba, Salvador Valdés Mesa, was welcomed in Hanoi by the Secretary General of Vietnam Communist Party (VCP), the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister, and the leader of the National Assembly.

Valdés Mesa talked with the leader of VCP, Nguyen Phu Trong, about the importance of his last visit to Cuba, last March, when both countries reached new agreements in order to expand bilateral political and economic ties.

Cuba sends condolences to Vietnam after floods consequences

On behalf of Cuban Government and the Cuban people, President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez expressed condolences to Vietnam after the human and material damages caused by recent floods in the northern part of the Indochinese country.

In a letter addressed to President Tran Dai Quang, and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, the Cuban head of State and Government extended his message to the family of the victims of the natural disaster.
