Vice Chancellor of the University of Makeni (UNIMAK) Receives the Cuban Ambassador to Sierra Leone.

Makeni, September 23, 2025.- At the Catholic University of Makeni, the Vice Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. J. A. Turay, received the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba, Norma Sánchez Águila, with whom he held a fluid discussion on various topics of interest.

During the cordial meeting, both parties highlighted the bonds of solidarity that unite both nations and reaffirmed their willingness to work together to promote relations between universities in Cuba and establish academic and cooperative ties for the development of human capital.

Sierra Leonean media highlight the return of a young cardiologist who graduated from the Cuban Institute of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery.

Freetown - August 20 – The Sierra Leone News Agency (SLENA) and the Sierraloaded SL News media outlet highlighted the simple welcome ceremony held by the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education (MTHE) for Dr. Joe Amara Koroma, a young Sierra Leonean who recently completed his medical studies in Cuba.

Freetown, March 7. - Norma Sánchez Águila, Chargé d'Affaires, Ambassador of Cuba in Sierra Leone, received at the headquarters of the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Freetown, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee of Foreign Affairs of the Parliament of Sierra Leone, Honorable Mohamed Bangura, along with a group of parliamentarians who make up this Committee.

Freetown, February 27, 2025. Norma Sánchez Águila, Chargé d'Affaires, Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in Sierra Leone, paid a courtesy visit to the Deputy Director General, Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Mr. Franklyn Brima Fawundu.

Both officials reviewed the state of bilateral relations, the possibilities of cooperation and the coincidence of positions in the international multilateral arena.

Sierra Leone and Cuba sign sports cooperation agreement.

Havana, Feb 26 (Prensa Latina) Sierra Leone and Cuba are committed to strengthening their sporting ties with the signing today of a cooperation agreement to boost participation in events, the exchange of knowledge and other projects.

The African nation's sports minister, Augusta James-Teima, and the president of that sector in the Caribbean nation (Inder), Osvaldo Vento, signed the document, the weekly Jit reported in its digital edition.

Sierra Leone's Minister of Sport begins visit to Cuba

Havana, Feb 24 (JIT).-  Sierra Leone's Minister of Sport, Ms. Augusta James-Teima, is in Cuba to cover a work program that will include the 2nd International Sports Fair, scheduled to run until the 27th here in Havana.

The visitor and the accompanying delegation were received at the José Martí International Airport by the Vice President of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (Inder), Omar Venegas Echemendía, who conveyed greetings to them on behalf of the Cuban sports movement and people.

Mayor of Freetown receives Head of the Cuban Diplomatic Mission in Sierra Leone

Freetown, January 17, 2025. The mayor of Freetown, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr OBE, received the Head of the Cuban Diplomatic Mission, Ambassador Norma Sánchez Águila, with whom she held a fluid dialogue on various topics of interest.
During the dialogue, the mayor offered a summary of the municipality's work to improve conditions in the country's capital and its fight to improve the environment. For his part, the Cuban diplomat referred to the experiences of the Cuban capital on these issues.
