As part of the activities for the establishment of bilateral relations between the two countries, the Cuban Ambassador, Dr. Indira López Argüelles, visited former President and Nobel Peace Prize laureate H.E. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the first African woman to lead a country and a role model for new generations in the fight for peace, tolerance, gender equality, and the African voice in the multilateral arena.
The Cuban Ambassador gave a presentation on the current situation of the reinforced US blockade and harassment of Cuba, as well as the effects of the energy embargo on the normal development of the population.
For her part, former President Sirleaf recalled the days of the Cuban doctors' work against Ebola, which led to the opening of the Embassy 10 years ago. She expressed her gratitude for Cuban collaboration and support and wished for a swift and meaningful improvement in life and peace for the island.
Both sides agreed on the anachronism of the US blockade of the island and recalled the meetings of the African leader with Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, whose centenary will be celebrated in 2026.
