UK Parliament Reaffirms Opposition to US Blockade of Cuba

London, 25 March.- The longstanding U.S. blockade of Cuba took center stage during a recent debate in the House of Lords of the British Parliament on March 25, 2025, as parliamentarians addressed its economic and political ramifications.

Lord Woodley opened the debate by questioning the UK government's steps toward ratifying agreements with Cuba, emphasizing the need to reduce Cuba's isolation amid ongoing challenges.

Lord Purvis of Tweed highlighted the effects of the embargo, which have been exacerbated by recent restrictions under the Trump administration.

Screen Cuba Film Festival opens its second edition

The work of the festival's organising team and the support of ICAIC was acknowledged.

tuesday 18th march:- The official opening of the second edition of the Screen Cuba Film Festival: "Films to Change the World" was held on 18 March at the prestigious Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) in London. This event, which continues to consolidate itself as a key platform for the dissemination of Cuban cinema, offers an excellent selection of films and documentaries from the 1960s to the present day.

Cuban Ambassador Delivers Keynote Address at Marx Oration 2025

The event, organized by the Marx Memorial Library and the Communist Party of Britain, gathered people from diverse backgrounds to honor the life and work of Marx at his final resting place.

Sunday, 16 March:- On a solemn and inspiring afternoon at Highgate Cemetery, the Cuban Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Ismara Mercedes Vargas Walter, stood as the principal speaker at the Marx Oration 2025, paying tribute to the enduring legacy of Karl Marx and reflecting on Cuba’s ongoing commitment to social justice and solidarity.  

Guitar and tradition: a tribute to the classics of Cuban music

With a masterful performance, Greek guitarist Nikos Baroutsakis took the British audience on a musical journey through the great classics of Cuban music.

 

Sunday, 16 March:- The Cuban Embassy in the UK was honoured to participate in an exceptional evening that fused art and music in an intimate and vibrant atmosphere. The concert, held on 16 March at the prestigious London Sketch Club, featured an outstanding performance by the renowned classical guitarist Nikos Baroutsakis, of Greek origin, who captivated the audience with a repertoire dedicated to the richness of Cuban music.

Cuban Solidarity Shines in Warwick

On March 15, the Cuban spirit of solidarity and resilience was celebrated at the Cuba Vive Medical Appeal event held at Warwick. Organized by the Cuba Solidarity Campaign and supported by the National Education Union (NEU), the evening brought together friends of Cuba to raise funds for vital medical supplies, while enjoying a vibrant night of music and shared purpose.  

The Cuban Embassy was proudly represented by Press Counsellor Orestes Martínez García, who conveyed the Ambassador’s gratitude to the organizers and participants for their unwavering support.
