Pretoria, 13 June 2024 - South Africa rejected the full application of the Helms-Burton Act against Cuba and called for the removal of the island from the spurious and arbitrary State Sponsors of Terrorism List this past Thursday at the United Nations General Assembly. South Africa's representative called it a "unfounded designation".
Johannesburg, 11 June 2024 - The General Secretary of the South African Communist Party (SACP), Solly Mapaila, condemned the blockade and sanctions imposed by the United States government against Cuba and reiterated his party's firm position of support for the Cuban government and people. Mapaila defended Cuba as an independent, sovereign and free nation building its own socialism.
Havana, June 5, 2024.- The Official Gazette of the Republic of Cuba published this Wednesday the new Social Communication Law, whose fundamental objective is to protect the rights of people to information and communication that are contemplated in the Constitution. For the official presentation of the law, a panel made up of specialists in the field took place in the Che Guevara Room of the Institute of Information and Social Communication.
Havana, May 29, 2024.- On May 28, the United States Government finally announced a group of measures to put into effect its announcements of May 16, 2022. The objective of this step is to favor the private sector in Cuba. The Cuban government will study these measures and, if they do not violate national legislation and mean an opening that benefits the Cuban population, even if only a segment, it will not hinder their application.
Pretoria, 25 May 2024 - The Cuban State Mission in South Africa celebrated the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between both countries and the 61st anniversary of Africa Day with a softball game today. Around 150 people attended, including members of the various brigades working in the country, Cuban residents, South African friends and the embassy staff.
