Cuba promotes, on behalf of a group of countries, the recognition of the human right to International Solidarity.

Geneva, 18 September 2025. Cuba today delivered a statement to the Human Rights Council on behalf of 68 countries advocating for the formal recognition of international solidarity as a human right.

In his statement, Cuban Ambassador Rodolfo Benítez Verson stressed that international solidarity is an essential component for the implementation of the right to development and the full enjoyment of economic, social and cultural rights.

Cuba reiterates its firm rejection of punitive and biased mandates adopted contrary to the will of the State concerned.

This mechanism, moreover, is intrusive and harmful to Sri Lanka’s sovereignty, and has proven to be entirely irrelevant.

Cuba strongly rejects the current deployment of United States naval and air forces in the Caribbean Sea.

This dangerous act represents a grave threat to regional peace and security. It is an aggressive show of force that undermines the sovereignty and self-determination of the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean.

It also ignores the commitment of the 33 member countries of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States to proclaim the region a Zone of Peace.
