Cuba highlights the impact of unilateral coercive measures on human mobility.

On the eve, the Group of Latin American and Caribbean countries met with the Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Amy Pope. 

Organized by the Bahamas, the meeting was an opportunity to take stock of the Organization's recent work in the areas of internal accountability, transparency, and promotion of Member States' priorities such as the establishment of regular and legal channels for migration and the effects of climate change as a factor of mobility.

UN experts today urged the United States to review its domestic framework that triggers specific sanctions against States designated as Sponsors of Terrorism (SST)

Currently four countries – the Republic of Cuba, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPR Korea), the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Syrian Arab Republic – figure on this U.S. Department of State list, with additional restrictions imposed on them because of the designation.

“The unilateral designation itself goes against the fundamental principles of international law, including the principle of sovereign equality of States, the prohibition to intervene into domestic affairs of states and the principle of peaceful settlement of international disputes,” the experts said.

Statement by the Cuban delegation to the plenary of the Conference on Disarmament.

Thank you Mr. President,

We thank you once again for your hard work in trying to move the current session forward. We hope that for the work program we can reach consensus based on the balance between members' priorities.

Mr. President,

We reiterate that it is not up to the Conference on Disarmament to deliberate, because for that we already have the Disarmament Commission. The Conference on Disarmament must negotiate binding instruments, in accordance with the mandate of SSOD-I.

The Cuban delegation intervenes on the item “Health emergencies”: report of the Director General of the WHO on Palestine to the 154th Executive Board of the WHO.

Mr. President,

We appreciate the report of the Director General and the work of the Organization on the ground, following the adoption of resolution EBSS7.R1 on December 10.

The report illustrates in detail the situation that we observe day after day through the alarming images that reach us from the occupied Palestinian territories.
