#Cuba welcomes the adoption of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons as a historic milestone

Geneva, July 11, 2017. A United Nations Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons has been adopted. This instrument is the result of a process of multilateral discussions over 70 years, which began with the adoption by the UN General Assembly of its first resolution, on January 24, 1946, which called for the elimination of nuclear weapons.

The new Treaty is a well-deserved tribute to all victims of the use or testing of nuclear weapons. Moreover, it is a fundamental step forward in the urgent path towards nuclear disarmament.

Geneva, 30 March 2017.On the eve of the next visit to Cuba by Ms. Maria Grazia Giammarinaro, Special Rapporteur on the human rights of victims of trafficking in persons, especially women and children, the Permanent Mission of Cuba to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today handed over to the Special Rapporteur the National Action Plan for the Prevention and Combating of Trafficking in Persons and the Protection of Victims, for the period 2017-2020.
