Press Release: Cuba strengthens its commitment to continue striving hard in the conservation of its marine-coastal ecosystems.

New York, 8 June 2017. Within theframework ofthe United Nations Ocean Conference, and as part of Dialogue 6: “Increasing scientific knowledge, developing research capabilities and transferring marine technology”, the Cuban Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Environment, José Fidel Santana Núñez, explained that in Cuba there are, since 1999, working platforms for the conservation of biodiversity, as proof of the political will and interest of the State to protect biodiversity for the nation’s economic development.

Press Release: “Cuba at ECOSOC’s Coordination and Management Meeting, for a more just and equitable international order for our peoples”.

At the ECOSOC’s Coordination and Management Meeting, and after conveying appreciation and honor to represent the Caribbean region, together with Jamaica, as part of the Interagency Working Group on Sustainable Development Indicators, Cuba underscored that the Framework of 230 Global Indicators, recently adopted, defines a significant starting point towards the implementation and periodical follow-up of the 2030 Agenda, its SDOs and goals.

As part of the United Nations Ocean Conference,the Cuban Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Environment, José Fidel Santana Núñez, highlighted today the importance Cuba attaches to Sustainable Development Goal 14 related with the conservation and sustainable use of oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development, as well as the remaining 16 goals that make up the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
