Headed by the Deputy Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, Ambassador Ana Silvia Rodríguez Abascal, a numerous group of officials from the Cuban Mission visited the Permanent Mission of Nicaragua, to pay homage to the memory of Father Miguel D'Escoto and sign the condolence book which has been opened, within the diplomatic headquarters, on his recent decease.

Cuba participated today in the meeting summoned by the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) to the United Nations with the presence of Ambassador Elayne White Gómez, Permanent Representative of Costa Rica to the United Nations based in Geneva and Chair of the United Nations Conference to negotiate a legal binding instrument prohibiting nuclear weapons and conducting to its total elimination.

During annual sessionof the UNICEF Executive Board, Cuba highlighted last year’s achievements despite the challenges still ahead to accomplish the welfare of those boys and girls, which constitute almost half of the 900 million people who live with less than 1,90 dollars a day.

At the Session of the Committee on Decolonization devoted to the Question of Western Sahara, the Cuban Ambassador Humberto Rivero Rosario emphasized there has been virtually no progress in finding an effective solution to the conflict in Western Sahara, despite the continued efforts carried out.
